Hypnotherapy For Anxiety

Overcome Anxiety: How Hypnotherapy Works

Anxiety is common, experienced at debilitating levels by millions of people at any one time. However, despite its prevalence, for people suffering from high levels of anxiety, anxiety is extremely distressing and can have a significant impact on the ability to enjoy life fully. In fact, when experiencing extreme anxiety or panic attacks, people often feel very isolated from others because the physical symptoms can be so intense.

But there is good news with anxiety. The experience of some anxiety is normal in life - the body can cope with anxiety and it can be useful to have a some nervousness when going for an interview or an exam or doing something important that is new - at these times anxiety can be helpful, it can help us focus when experienced in small amounts at specific time.

However, a high level of distressing anxiety that doesn't seem appropriate to the circumstances, suggests that there are underlying causes for the anxiety at an unconscious level.

Hypnotherapy can help people to become free of anxiety that affects daily life, whether it is experienced through social anxiety, specific phobias, obsessional thoughts and compulsions, free-floating anxiety or generalised anxiety (feeling anxious for no particular obvious reason), extreme anxiety in the form of panic attacks, or anxiety that can occur as a co-existing distressor alongside depression.

Consider the differing roles of the conscious and unconscious mind

The lists above indicate the limits to the role of the conscious mind - The conscious mind is very important in life, it is just limited. The subconscious and unconscious control much more, and importantly for hypnotherapy, control our repeated patterns such as repeatedly getting anxious in similar situations.

Hypnotherapy works for anxiety by helping the subconsious mind to resolve the distress, allowing you experience what you want - such as for example, to be free from anxiety, and to be calm. Hypnotherapy -working directly with the subconscious and unconscious, is an ideal method of resolving underlying causes of excessive anxiety to allow complete and long term relief from unwanted symptoms.

People who suffer from anxiety often can't imagine how they will be able to relax in a hypnotherapy session.  If that applies to you, you don't have to be concerned at all - you don't even have to be relaxed in hypnosis. It is the goal to reach relaxation - for you to be able to feel relaxed after your therapy, we don't have to start off there. So don't worry if you think that you are not going to be able to relax enough for a hypnosis session - Hypnotherapists are trained to deal with exactly what you are going through - you will be asked questions to get to know your specific needs for change, and goals, and the therapy will be structured around the information we receive from you. Hypnotherapists are goal focused and hypnosis and hypnotherapy can help you reach your goal much much faster than if you just talk about it, think about it, or consciously try to change it - because hypnosis goes straight to the part of the mind causing the issues and the change takes place at that same level, the subconscious. All that the conscious has to do is to really want the change to happen - and that is your job. Once you consciously want the change to happen there is a lot hypnotherapy can do to make that happen.
